What does it mean to feel a true sense of belonging in Lakewood?
We’re inviting residents to participate in small-group Community Listening Sessions focused on inclusion and belonging in all areas of city life from public spaces to city services, from neighborhoods to city programs, and from civic engagement to safety. These sessions are part of Lakewood’s ongoing effort to understand and support what helps people feel seen, valued, and connected regardless of income, background, ability, gender, sexual orientation, age, race, faith, or how long you’ve lived here.
What is a Listening Session?
A listening session is a welcoming, small-group conversation where neighbors come together to share their stories and experiences. These are not town halls or public comment forums. There are no PowerPoints or policy debates, just real conversations centered on your voice and your lived experience. Whether your experience of Lakewood has been joyful, challenging, or somewhere in between, we want to hear from you. Your insights will help shape a city that truly works for everyone.
Why We’re Doing This
Lakewood has long aspired to be a community where everyone belongs. We’re building on past research and local data to hear directly from residents, especially those whose voices haven’t always been centered, about what inclusion and belonging look and feel like in practice. Your input will help guide how the city designs policies, allocates resources, and improves access and engagement in areas like housing, transportation, safety, public services, and community life.
